Long term preservation experiments were performed for the methanogenic acclimatized consortia, where different parameters were tested to develop an optimum method. Pre-preservation growth, lyophilization and reinoculation were employed, and each step’s parameters were adjusted accordingly to ensure high revival rate of the preserved cells. Different configurations were tested to create a functioning lyophilised bioaugmentation inoculum and determine the final optimum parameters. The next steps include participation in international conferences to disseminate the project’s results and promote engagement in the MicroPower Project and use the long term preserved inocula in continuous reactors applications.
